'The Ben'
Ben Nevis or ‘The Ben’ as it is affectionately called is the UK’s highest mountain standing tall at 1,345m.
We first walked up Ben Nevis in 2017 during a trip with our Dad munro bagging.
If you fancy bagging The Ben yourself, Fort William makes for a great base to stay and explore some of the surrounding munros.
I’d recommend taking the train up from Glasgow to Fort William. Whilst a long journey (taking around 3 hours 45 minutes), the changing scenery from urban landscape to mountain vistas heightens the sense of adventure and expectation.
The main path to the top of Ben Nevis is long, steep and a bit of a slog. For the more experienced and initiated, an alternative route via the Carn Mor Dearg Arete (CMD Arete) offers some of the best scrambling in the UK and is hailed as the ‘finest way to climb’ up to the summit. It’s certainly on our to-do list.
